Dahl pakoras / lentil fritters

Quantity: 40 pieces

Complexity: medium

Working time: 50 min

Total preparation: 60 min

Ingredients

  • 100 g yellow split peas

  • 100 g black split mung bean

  • 50 g orange lentils

  • 2 large onions

  • 1.5 tbsp ginger

  • 50 g coriander (fresh)

  • 2 green peppers

  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  • half tsp asafoetida

  • 3 tsp salt (to taste)

  • some oil for frying

Preparation

I used three different beans/lentils, but you can also choose 1 type.

Soak them in water for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Place the soaked beans/lentils in a blender, add green pepper, ginger, cumin seeds, asafoetida and salt. Puree until a nice smooth mass.

Place this mixture in a bowl and add finely chopped onions and coriander.

I had set aside some soaked lentils and added them to the mixture. That gives more bite to the pakoras.

Heat a large base of oil in a wok/pan. Roll balls and fry them in the oil until light brown.

Delicious with peanut chutney or coriander/mint chutney (Raita)
