Ingredients and supplies
- 450 ml milk
- 1 small onion
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 25 g butter
- 25 g flour
- salt/pepper to taste
- Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
Prep-work
Peel the small onion and cut into quarters.
Preparation
Bring the milk with onion, bay leaf and 1 tsp black pepper to the boil (when the milk rises, turn off the gas and put the lid on) let it stand for 10 minutes. Then strain.
Melt the butter in another pan over low heat (do not let it brown).
Stir in the flour and heat, stirring, for 1 minute.
Then gradually add the milk, little by little, while stirring continuously.
Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste.
If you add grated (old) cheese you have a cheese sauce.
Now it is ready to be used in other dishes.
